Mindfulness and the Change of One Letter

stockxpertcom_id214847_size1%20eye%20chart.JPG

I’m driving to work this morning on Minnesota Ave. A little south of 26th Street I see a sign that says, “Blog for sale” and then a phone number.

Intrigued, I called the number and left a message. I kept wondering, “Who is crazy enough to sell a blog when you can start a new one for free? It must get a lot of hits.”

This afternoon I get a call back from someone asking me if I was interesting in buying their BUILDING. “Building?” I asked, completely confused. “Yes, the caller said, I thought you said you were interested in buying my building.”

Obviously it wasn’t “blog” I saw at 30 mph at 7:45 a.m. this morning but “bldg.” I just have “blog(s)” on the brain.

I laughed heartily and told the nice gentleman that I didn’t need a new building—or a new blog—for that matter.

There’s a lesson there in mindfulness—and wearing my new glasses instead of my old ones.

LOL, I loved this post, High Plains Drifter!

It's the nature of the mind to try to make sense of the world around us, isn't it? Because you didn't see the sign so well, for whatever reasons, your brain used the word it was most familiar with to fill in the blanks, and came up with 'blog.' It's like the story of the guy who thought he'd stumbled on a snake in the dark, but when he saw more clearly, he realized that it was a piece of rope.

Keep up the good posts,

Good stuff! how this technique can keep 'bldg' as 'bldg' and not 'blog'. I think thats the end cause of all suffering in the world. We just screw-up and then bad things come our way. The root cause is we are on autopilot and so attached. Thats unskillful man! I tell myself. Buddha said attachment is the cause of all suffering. So practice being awake to the 'attachment'- thats skillful. And then presto the autopilot becomes skilfull too!! And then dude Ur COOL and Ur actions laserlike as the zen practising Samurai. Certainly the 'bldg' can never become 'blog' LOL!!!

Wow, thats really excellent. It reminds me of the other day when i was masturbating whilst high on drugs, and I thought that "to let" was in fact "toilet". Oh dear, how incredibly unmindful I have been.
